DEEP SURFACE PROTOTYPE

Los Angeles - California
Designed for Archilab 2010, this prototype explores surface-to-volume aesthetics through composite materiality. Using involuted surfaces in manifold configurations, the effect of volumes nested in a container is produced. Large polycarbonate apertures produce desire for the world created inside, as in an aquarium.

A dual pattern language of spots and stripes is used to further differentiate outside and inside. The spots are comprised of solar thin-film, while the stripes are luminescent OLED film. Both are embedded in super-thin composite surface, pointing towards a radical new form of construction.
